Friending Policy

Anyone over 18 and with an interest in Marquesate's writing is very welcome to friend Marquesate on LJ and follow this journal. However, I retain the right to de-friend at any time.

There are only two kinds of people who hear voices in their heads:
schizophrenics and writers.
And sometimes, the line between the two gets very thin.

Marquesate is a British author who has been associated with the British Forces for many years, and who specialises in brutally realistic contemporary military gay erotic fiction. Marquesate's fiction always carries a punch with its a distinctive style, its emphasis on plot, and literary merits far beyond erotica.

Using the insider knowledge of the 'bowels' of the military machinery and the insight into the soldiers' minds and modes of functioning, Marquesate creates realistic settings, situations and characters who are simultaneously down to earth and larger than life. Those men are strong, aggressive, tough and independent, and it is their determination and truthfulness to themselves and their comrades in arms, that becomes their saviour and their downfall.

These soldiers are grounded in their military context and thrown into a maelstrom of duty, comradeship, hostility, courage, loyalty and lust, to emerge scarred, battle-hardened and touched at the very core of their selves - by another man, another soldier, an enemy, a friend, a foe or an ally.

'Never the twain shall meet', is not a dictum Marquesate adheres to. Those men do meet despite cross fire, friendly fire and violence, through the ranks, and across all the frontlines dividing their world. Enemy mine and brothers in arms.

Steeped in lust, no-holds barred, often sweaty, hard, brutal and aggressive, Marquesate writes love stories in a military setting. They are gritty, tough and gripping, often full of pain and hatred, but also full of courage, loyalty and determination. Above all, there is always love. In all its manifestations and however impossible it may seem.

Her Majesty's Men is available directly from the printer both as paperback and for download. It will be available on Amazon soon.

Her Majesty's Men is the story of two soldiers in the British Forces and of a friendship taking unexpected turns. In the eyes of the Army they are just two mates who are close. But from the revelation of personal secrets, ensuing hatred and aggression, through terror and danger, to loyalty, triumphant strength and courage, grows their own realisation of what they are: comrades first and foremost, but something more significant, too.

The two Royal Engineers, Sgt Tom Warren and SSgt Alex Turner, learn to understand the real meaning of loyalty and strength. Their fight for survival cuts through all the discipline and rules, to tie them together in a unique bond of companionship and trust.

Reviews of Her Majesty's Men

Code of Honour is a short story (9.5k) set in the French Foreign Legion. It is part of the "I Do" charity anthology, which contains twenty stories. Printing and distribution costs have been donated by MLR Press.

Indigene wrote a wonderful synopsis of the story, full review available on her site:

"Joe Evans is 20 years old and the youngest member of the 2e Régiment Étranger d’Infanterie (2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment) of the French Foreign Legion. Joe survived eleven months of grueling training but as he puts it “he’d prevailed.” As an unemployed school dropout in his native England he did not have much of a chance for anything in life – no hope, no future. But he was now part of something bigger. “He’d become someone. He was a soldier.” Joe joins his regiment in Nimes where he meets his Sergeant – Henri Roux. Sgt. Roux is French Canadian and all military – a man of few words but of action. Joe has managed to hide the fact that he’s gay very well until the moment he meets his new Sgt. At first sight Joe falls hard cursing his fate – his Sgt Roux is “perfection.” While on jungle training with his regiment Joe rescues his Sgt. Roux from a fall and gives in to temptation. Much to his astonishment his Sgt. takes decisive action in response. And so they begin their clandestine trysts from military base to Paris and back, where Sgt. Roux mentors Joe in many things, continuously challenging and teaching him and Joe experiences, learns and grows and along the way begins to proudly accept who and what he is – soldier and man."
